Introduction

One of the most impressive ancient devices known in the world today is the Antikythera Mechanism. In this 3-hour-project you will become acquainted with the mysterious Mechanism and reveal some of its secrets. During these 3 hours you will take on a specific role in order to find more information about the Antikythera Mechanism, you will dig deep in books from our school library and websites, and according to your roles and different perspectives and findings, you will create your own Power Point presentation which will be presented to your peers using the appropriate explanations and justifications. Αll presentations will be uploaded to our school website and our school blog and all the information gathered will be composed so that you create a leaflet for the website we have created for the Erasmus+ project we take part in. So, get ready to be surprised!!

Step 1 - (15')

What do you know about "The Antikythera Mechanism" ? Go to the following link that opens online documents on which you can work in real time with your peers and start brainstorming. Write down all your ideas that seem to be associated with the Mechanism. Alternatively, you can use the board or your notebook. Then, share your ideas with the teacher and your peers. Of course you can use all the words and phrases presented!

Step 2 - (25')

You are going to watch a 7.51' film in English made by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism (https://youtu.be/UpLcnAIpVR) about the Antikythera Mechanism. Before you watch it, open the Quick Game Worksheet1, watch the film, locate the correct answers and take notes about the most important features of the device and its history mentioned in the Worksheet. Then, you can check your answers in the Quick Game on your computer.
